What Do We Need Right Now?

The world is in an uncertain time of history. People all around us are getting sick, and we’re all being pleaded with to stay inside. Stay inside? Not go to work? Not see our friends and family? What is this?

It sounds so weird to isolate ourselves, especially when we know that connection with other human beings is key for mental health. So, what are we to do? How do we get that connection when it feels impossible?! Does seeing someone over a computer screen have the same effect as an in-person visit?

I have no idea!

But what I do know is that we need to try. We need to try to connect in any way possible. Text. Email. Phone Call. Video Call. Waving across the lawn. We need foster any type of connection we can!

I also think that not only do we need human connection, but we need expression. I feel like one way or another, we are all being forced to deal with our feelings because we literally cannot escape them anymore! We are inside with ourselves and our thoughts for at least 50% of our days. So, let’s get honest and talk it out. Or better yet – let’s get it out with music!

Find that song you connect with and do something extra: wonder why you connect with it? What is it articulating for you? What does the music say that words can’t? What do you feel?

So, besides connecting and expressing our feelings, I think we seriously need support. Now more than ever, we need other people to help guide us. We need people to help keep us financially afloat. We could use a listening ear and someone give us advice in a time like now.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

We may even need someone to help guide us in the expressing and connecting. There is no shame in looking to someone to help support your mental health. It can be scary to be in a room alone with your thoughts for extended periods of time – we need other people!

I want to let you know that you are not alone in everything you are or are not feeling. We’re all living through an uncertain time. But one thing is for sure, we’re doing it together. Every single person on the face of the planet is being affected by COVID-19 right now.

What can you do? Reach out to your loved ones. Call your friends. FaceTime with your cousin to see their cute baby! Send an email or mail a card just for the heck of it!

And if you need extra support, assistance with expression, and a way to connect, consider music therapy and music & wellness sessions. I am now offering online sessions. I am also offering a deal that if you book one or more sessions now through April, you are eligible for $10-$20 off!

Let me know if you are interested in sessions or even just chatting more. I’m here for you and would be happy to offer support in any way.
