Close To Home - Daniel Prude

Things hit us a little harder when they’re close to home, right? Well, we’re home.

Just a day and a half ago I found out about Daniel Prude. He was just 41 years old and experiencing a mental health crisis. Mental health crises are not new - I have experienced episodes, as have my family members, friends, coworkers, professors, etc. So, why did he die by the hands of police!

Things need to change. Drastically. The police are not policing… they’re killing. It’s not okay. It’s never been okay. Black Lives Matter.

Black Lives Matter and there’s more than enough evidence (and HISTORY) to show that our systems, policies, leadership, etc. have not supported Black Lives. We need to change this. Please register to vote. Go to your county’s website or just google “how to register to vote” and sign up. There are lots of resources if registering to vote and voting is confusing to you as it is to me. Once you’re registered, do your research and follow local, state, and national candidates running for all the offices you are able to vote for wherever you live.

Take a step further and don’t keep this info quiet inside your home with your door closed. Talk with friends, have conversations with your family, post on social media to get everyone talking! Talk about who you are voting for and why. Ask your fiends and family what they think and have these conversations - even if you don’t feel like you’re good at politics. We all have a responsibility right now to show up and start talking. Do what you can to create real change. We all play a part in politics, even if you don’t have a political science degree.

If you haven't heard about what happened to Daniel Prude and how we're only hearing about it now, google it... and read info specifically from Rochester News sources (much more accurate).

If you're looking for a place to donate, I've listed these links to make it easy. Please note, there are so many more things you can be doing to support Black Lives and so many more organizations to follow and support here in Rochester, NY, these are just a few.

Let's share our love and support to Rochester, NY. ❤️
