music and wellness

I was asked by a college student to write a little something for their project. Thought I’d share it here too. 😊

You feel music, not just its parts (melody, rhythm, harmony, timbre, etc), but the meaning written into existence by the composer and the intention of the performer themselves. It’s like music is air that fills in the gaps of space and time. Although divided by years and land, we are all one body of life interconnected by song and dance.

So “music and wellness” is not just for the individual; it is for all of humanity. The human race depends on sound to connect across divides and unite to tell the story of the human experience. Music is the voice of the one hurting, it is the touch of a warm embrace, it is the energy in shared joy. With or without words, we feel music, and this makes us well.
